Who Is Tatsutchi?

A dragon — not the Western fire-breathing variety, but the East Asian ryÅ« (龍): serpentine, cloud-dwelling, associated with water, forests, mountains, and the kind of divine power that moves through natural systems rather than opposing them. Tatsu (è¾° or 龍) is Japanese for dragon, and it also corresponds to the Dragon sign in the Chinese zodiac. Tatsutchi is that dragon — a long, scaled creature of forest and cloud, embodying the culmination of the Jade Forest shell’s whole ecosystem.

The secret character exclusive to the Jade Forest shell and the final character in the Forest Field. Unlike the other three secret characters, Tatsutchi can be reached through any Forest Young type except Forest Sprout — three of the four Food paths all lead here given the right connection conditions. The dragon emerges not from a specific food type but from the forest itself, through connection.

How to Get Tatsutchi

Tatsutchi requires two conditions that must both be met during the Young stage:

Step 1 — Be on the Jade Forest shell
Tatsutchi is exclusive to the Jade Forest shell. It cannot be obtained on Blue Water, Pink Land, or Purple Sky regardless of any other steps.

Step 2 — Reach Young stage as any Forest Young except Forest Sprout Young
Any of the following qualify:
– Forest Roar Young (Peking Meat food during Kid)
– Forest Toddle Young (Bamboo Grass food during Kid)
– Forest Chirp Young (Pomegranate food during Kid)

Forest Sprout Young does not qualify. If you’re on the default-pellet path (no food type), you cannot get Tatsutchi. This makes Tatsutchi the only secret character that explicitly excludes the default-pellet path — you must have fed a specific food type during Kid.

Step 3 — Connect to two different shell colors during the Young stage
This is the core secret requirement. Connect your Jade Forest Tama to a device running a different shell color while in the Young stage. Then connect to a second different shell color.

What counts as a connection: Standard device-to-device infrared connection. Both connections must happen while your Tama is in the Young stage — connections made as a Kid or Adult do not count.

Important: The two connections must be to two different shell colors. Connecting to the same color twice doesn’t count.

If all conditions are met, your Forest Young will evolve into Tatsutchi instead of its normal adult form.

Tatsutchi Among the Four Secret Characters

Each shell has exactly one secret character, unlocked by the same general method with varying Young-type restrictions:

Tatsutchi shares the “any except one” flexibility structure with Mermarintchi and Yayacorntchi. The excluded type in each case is the default-pellet path (Float Young, Rocky Young, Forest Sprout Young) — secret characters in Paradise consistently require a food-type specialization during Kid, not just the pellet path.

As the Jade Forest shell’s secret character and the culminating character of the Forest Field, Tatsutchi represents the forest’s ultimate form: the serpentine dragon that moves through the ecosystem as its highest expression.

The requirement that Tatsutchi come from Forest Roar, Toddle, or Chirp Young (but not Sprout) creates a meaningful design distinction: the dragon emerges from animal-world paths (boar, lesser panda, magpie evolution lines) but not from the purely vegetable path. The dragon is reached through the living forest, not the growing ground.

Tatsutchi is also one of only two characters (with Chodracotchi) that cannot come from a default-pellet path regardless of which shell you’re on — the secretmost characters require the most specific preparation.

For intentional Tatsutchi runs: Choose any food type during Kid except default Pellets (Peking Meat, Bamboo Grass, or Pomegranate). During Young, make two connections to two different shell colors. The care level during Young doesn’t affect the secret requirement — Tatsutchi can be obtained at any care level given the connections.

Practical tip: The two-connection requirement is the same as all other secret characters. On the Jade Forest shell, connecting to any two of the other three shell colors (Purple Sky, Blue Water, Pink Land) satisfies the requirement. Plan connections during the Young stage rather than waiting for a specific care level result.

Among secret characters: Tatsutchi is the hardest to accidentally obtain — it requires both a food-type specialization (ruling out pellet-only players) and two connections (ruling out isolated players). It’s a character that presupposes social engagement and intentional food preparation. The dragon arrives at the intersection of the two things that casual play tends to skip.

Personality in lore: Ancient, expansive, and operating at a scale that makes the forest itself feel small. Tatsutchi doesn’t need your guidance — it is the thing that the forest’s ecosystem has been building toward. Fans describe it as the character that feels most like a reward for understanding how everything fits together. You can’t reach it accidentally; you can only reach it by knowing what you’re doing.

Who Should Raise Tatsutchi?

Tatsutchi is for players who have two connections planned and are willing to commit to a specific food type during Kid. The two-connection social requirement means it rewards engaged, social players more than solo ones. The flexibility on care level (any care level works during Young) makes it more accessible than other secret characters on that dimension — you don’t need to target a specific bracket. The three qualifying food paths (Peking Meat, Bamboo Grass, Pomegranate) give significant flexibility in approach. You must own the Jade Forest shell, and you need access to two other shell colors to satisfy the connection requirement. The 30% sick chance is the Forest Field’s structural advantage.

How Tatsutchi Compares

Tatsutchi has the most flexible Young-type requirement of the four secret characters — three of four paths qualify (only Forest Sprout Young is excluded), compared to Chodracotchi’s single-path restriction (Lick Young only) on the Pink Land shell. Mermarintchi and Yayacorntchi share the “any except one” structure with Tatsutchi, making those three broadly similar in accessibility. The care-level freedom Tatsutchi offers is shared across all four secrets — none of them require a specific mistake count. Why is Forest Sprout Young excluded?
All four secret characters exclude the default-pellet/no-food-type path. This is a consistent design rule: secrets require food-type specialization during Kid. Tatsutchi’s exclusion of Forest Sprout Young follows the same pattern as the other three shells’ secrets.

Can Tatsutchi appear on other shells?
No. Tatsutchi is exclusive to the Jade Forest shell — the only shell with a Forest Field among the 2025 launch lineup.

Does care level matter for Tatsutchi?
No — the care level during Young determines which normal adult you would have gotten from your food type and care mistakes. The two-connection requirement overrides the normal result entirely if met.

Can I connect to the same shell twice?

Can Tatsutchi breed?
Yes. All adults in Tamagotchi Paradise can breed with any compatible adult of the opposite gender. After breeding, the egg hatches into Babymarutchi and the evolution cycle starts fresh — the baby’s adult form depends on your field, food, and care choices, not on which parents bred.

About This Character’s Field

The Forest Field is the home field of the Jade Forest shell and is not available on other 2025 launch shells. Forest Field characters have Peking Meat, Bamboo Grass, Pomegranate, and Default Pellet evolution paths. All Forest Field characters have a 30% sick chance (with one exception).
