Each version of the Tamagotchi Paradise has exactly one secret character that you can’t get through normal raising. They don’t appear in the in-game compendium until you’ve unlocked them, and the method for getting them isn’t explained anywhere in the instruction manual. If you’ve heard about Mermarintchi, Chodracotchi, Yayacorntchi, or Tatsutchi and wondered how on earth you’re supposed to find them — this is the guide.
The Secret Characters at a Glance
| Shell | Secret Character | Based On |
|---|---|---|
| Blue Water 🔵 | Mermarintchi | Mermaid |
| Pink Land 🩷 | Chodracotchi | Dragon |
| Purple Sky 💜 | Yayacorntchi | Corn/vegetable creature |
| Jade Forest 🟢 | Tatsutchi | East Asian dragon 🐉 |
Each secret character is exclusive to its shell color. You cannot get Mermarintchi on a Pink Land shell, full stop. You need the specific shell that matches the character you want.
How to Unlock a Secret Character
The method is the same for all four shells:
- Raise your Tamagotchi to the Young stage
- While it’s a Young, connect to two different shell colors
- The connections must be to two different colors — connecting to the same color twice doesn’t count
- Your Tamagotchi must be the right Young species (see below)
That’s the whole mechanic. Two connections, two different colors, right Young type, during the Young stage. Do all of that and your Tamagotchi will evolve into the secret character instead of a normal adult.
Blue Water: Mermarintchi 🔵
Young types that work: Glide Young, Leap Young, or Paddle Young
Young type that does NOT work: Float Young
To get Mermarintchi, raise a Water Kid on the Blue Water shell and feed it Seafood, Seaweed, or Plankton so it evolves into one of the three qualifying Young types. Then connect to a Pink Land shell AND a Purple Sky shell (or Jade Forest) while it’s a Young.
Float Young is the one exception — even with two connections, a Float Young cannot become Mermarintchi. So if you accidentally ended up with a Float Young, you’ll need to wait for the next generation.
Pink Land: Chodracotchi 🩷
Young type that works: Lick Young only
Young types that do NOT work: Roar Young, Toddle Young, Sprout Young
Chodracotchi is the most restrictive of the four — only Lick Young qualifies. During your Kid stage on the Pink Land shell, feed Worm-type foods (Meal Bugs, Meal Worms, Bug Cookies) to ensure you evolve into Lick Young. Then connect to a Blue Water shell AND a Purple Sky shell (or Jade Forest) while it’s a Young.
If you’re not sure which Young you have, check the name in the Tama Cell or Tama File — Lick Young has arms and a tail and is described as “rather unpredictable.”
Purple Sky: Yayacorntchi 💜
Young types that work: Flap Young, Chirp Young, or Bumble Young
Young type that does NOT work: Rocky Young
Three of the four Sky Young types can become Yayacorntchi, which makes this one of the easier secrets to unlock. Feed Chicken, Corn, or Honey foods during the Kid stage on the Purple Sky shell to get one of the qualifying Young types. Then connect to a Blue Water shell AND a Pink Land shell (or Jade Forest) while it’s a Young.
Rocky Young is excluded — if you ended up with a mineral Young through a no-food-type diet, you’ll need to try again next generation.
About Yayacorntchi: It loves all fruits and vegetables and has no disliked foods at all — the only character in the game with a fully open diet. Hunger drains every 90 minutes and happiness every 80 minutes, making it one of the more relaxed adults to care for.
Jade Forest: Tatsutchi 🟢
Young types that work: Forest Roar Young, Forest Toddle Young, or Forest Chirp Young
Young type that does NOT work: Forest Sprout Young
Tatsutchi is an East Asian dragon poised in a misty bamboo grove — easily one of the most visually stunning characters in the game and exclusive to the Jade Forest shell. Three of the four Forest Young types can become Tatsutchi, so you have flexibility in which food path you take. Feed Peking Meat, Bamboo Grass, or Pomegranate foods during the Kid stage to hit one of the qualifying Young types. Then connect to two other different shell colors while it’s a Young.
Forest Sprout Young (the no-food-type default) is the one that won’t work, so make sure you’re feeding something specific during the Kid stage.
About Tatsutchi: Hunger drains every 90 minutes and happiness every 80 minutes with no disliked foods (except default Pellets). Beautiful to care for and genuinely worth the effort.
Secret Character Stats & Profiles
Full stat breakdowns and personality details for all four secret characters — so you know what you’re getting before you put in the work to unlock them.
Mermarintchi — Blue Water 🔵
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Shell | Blue Water (exclusive) |
| Hunger drain | Every 90 min (very forgiving) |
| Happy drain | Every 80 min (very forgiving) |
| Sick rate | 35% |
| Favorite foods | Seafood items |
| Disliked foods | None confirmed |
About Mermarintchi: A mermaid-based character exclusive to the Blue Water shell. One of the most desirable characters on Blue Water for collectors — she’s the only character that blends the aquatic theme of the shell with a humanoid design. Her generous hunger and happiness timers make her one of the more relaxed adults to raise once you’ve unlocked her, which is a reward for the effort required. She won’t appear in your in-game compendium until you’ve raised her at least once.
Chodracotchi — Pink Land 🩷
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Shell | Pink Land (exclusive) |
| Hunger drain | Every 80 min |
| Happy drain | Every 70 min |
| Sick rate | 35% |
| Favorite foods | Meat items |
| Disliked foods | None confirmed |
About Chodracotchi: The rarest secret character to obtain — not because of the connection requirement, but because only Lick Young qualifies (requiring a Worm-type diet: Meal Bugs, Meal Worms, or Bug Cookies). The name blends “choco” (chocolate), “dragon,” and “-tchi.” Chodracotchi is a chocolate-colored dragon with a sweet, fierce personality — fitting for the Pink Land shell’s cat mascot aesthetic. The combination of the strict Young requirement and the two-shell connection makes her the hardest secret character to plan for.
Yayacorntchi — Purple Sky 💜
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Shell | Purple Sky (exclusive) |
| Hunger drain | Every 90 min (very forgiving) |
| Happy drain | Every 80 min (very forgiving) |
| Sick rate | 35% |
| Favorite foods | Fruits & Vegetables (Apples, Carrots, Cherries, Corn, Apple Pie, Shredded Carrots, Cherry Pie, Corn Flakes) |
| Disliked foods | None — unique in the entire roster |
About Yayacorntchi: A corn-based creature with a joyful, excitable personality — the “yaya” in her name is an onomatopoeia for yelling with delight. What makes Yayacorntchi uniquely valuable is that she is the only character in the entire game with no disliked foods. Every other character dislikes at least one food category; Yayacorntchi accepts everything. This makes her exceptionally easy to feed without accidentally serving something she hates. If you raise a lot of different characters and find tracking food preferences annoying, Yayacorntchi is a dream. Her stat profile is also among the most forgiving in the game.
Tatsutchi — Jade Forest 🟢
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Shell | Jade Forest (exclusive) |
| Hunger drain | Every 90 min (very forgiving) |
| Happy drain | Every 80 min (very forgiving) |
| Sick rate | 30% (Forest Field advantage) |
| Favorite foods | All forest foods accepted |
| Disliked foods | Default Pellets only |
About Tatsutchi: Named after tatsu (竜), the archaic Japanese word for dragon — the same kanji as modern ryū. Tatsutchi is an East Asian dragon: long serpentine body, green with a yellow belly, gold deer-like horns, and a pink frill. Unlike most Tamagotchi dragons which are stocky and cute, Tatsutchi has an elegant, classical design — one of the most visually striking characters in the entire Paradise lineup. The 30% sick rate (Forest Field perk) makes Tatsutchi slightly hardier than the three other secret characters, all of whom have 35%. With 90-minute hunger and 80-minute happy timers, she’s also the most relaxed to keep alive. The only catch: she dislikes default Pellets, so feed her actual Forest foods to keep her happy.

Practical Tips
You need physical devices to connect. Connections happen through the dock port on the side of the Paradise device — this is a physical hardware connection, not wireless. You need two other people with different-colored Paradise devices, or you need to own multiple shells yourself.
The connection just needs to happen — outcome doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter whether the connection results in a playdate, a fight, or a breeding attempt. The secret character flag is triggered simply by connecting, not by what happens during the connection.
Timing: The connection must happen while your Tamagotchi is in the Young stage, which lasts 24 hours. You have a full day to make both connections. Don’t wait until the last minute though — Young stages evolve on a timer and you could miss the window.
Both connections can happen back to back. You don’t need to wait between connections. Connect to one shell color, then immediately connect to a second shell color. That’s sufficient.
You can still get a normal adult if you mess up. If you only connect to one color, or connect to the wrong Young type, your Tamagotchi will simply evolve into a normal adult based on your care mistake count. No harm done — just try again next generation.
“I Did Everything Right But Didn’t Get the Secret Character”
A few things to double-check:
- Was your Young the right type? Float, Rocky, and Forest Sprout Young cannot become secret characters under any conditions.
- Were the two connections to genuinely different colors? Two Blue Water connections don’t count — you need two distinct shell colors.
- Did both connections happen during the Young stage? Connections made during the Kid stage or Baby stage don’t count. The Young stage is the only window.
- Are you on the right shell? You can only get Mermarintchi on Blue Water, Chodracotchi on Pink Land, Yayacorntchi on Purple Sky, and Tatsutchi on Jade Forest. Cross-shell connections don’t transfer secret characters.
