The Young stage is the hinge of the whole game. Your field decides your Kid, the food you feed during the Kid stage decides your Young species, and your care mistakes decide which of that Young’s four adults you end up with.
Get the Young wrong and no amount of careful play afterwards will reach the adult you wanted. This page covers all twelve Young species and what triggers each.
How You Get a Specific Young
During the Kid stage, feed the food type tied to the Young you want. You need at least one food icon of that type in your Tama Cell, and more of it than any other type. Feed a few of the target food, watch for the icon, then switch to cheap default pellets to save Gotchi Points.
If no single type dominates at the moment of evolution, you get the field’s default Young — Float, Sprout or Rocky depending where you are. Default Youngs cannot reach the secret character, so landing on one by accident is the most expensive mistake in the game.
The Kid stage lasts 24–28 hours, and the Young stage about 24 more.

The Same Young, Different Adults
This is what trips people up. Roar Young exists in four different fields — and produces a completely different set of four adults in each. A Roar Young in the Land Field becomes Meowtchi with perfect care; the same Roar Young in the Ice Field becomes Okojotchi.
So “how do I get Roar Young” has four answers depending on your shell. Each species guide covers all of them.
