Tamagotchi Gen 2 Care & Discipline Guide: Care Mistakes, Discipline & Higher or Lower

Care on the Tamagotchi Gen 2 re-release works exactly like Gen 1 — two counters, care mistakes and discipline mistakes, decide your adult — but the food, the game and the secret-character rules are different. This guide covers what counts as each mistake, the stricter re-release discipline, how to win Higher or Lower reliably, and the beginner mistakes that cost people Mimitchi.

How Care Works

Care is identical in structure to Gen 1 — only the food and game art change. Use A to move, B to confirm, C to cancel, and cycle the status screens to watch Age & Weight, Discipline, Hungry, and Happy.

  • Meals vs. snacks: a meal (hamburger) fills a Hungry heart and adds 1 weight; a snack (cake) fills a Happy heart but adds 2 weight and risks sickness. Raise happiness with the game, not cake, to keep weight low.
  • Attention & care mistakes: answer the lit attention icon within ~15 minutes (hunger, happiness, or lights-off) or it logs a care mistake.
  • Discipline: scold it when it calls but refuses food and play; on the reissue, ignoring discipline calls counts against you even with a full bar.
  • Sickness, sleep & poop: cure illness with medicine, turn the lights off at bedtime, and clean poop promptly to avoid mistakes and disease.

The Mini-Game: Higher or Lower

Gen 2 trades Gen 1’s direction game for a number game. Your Tamagotchi picks a number 1–9; you guess whether the next number will be higher (press B) or lower (press A). Win at least 3 of 5 rounds to win the game, which fills one Happy heart and trims 1 weight. On the reissue, each round starts with a fresh number. As with Gen 1, the game is the smart way to keep your pet happy without piling on weight — essential for raising Mimitchi.

Higher or Lower — Statistical Shortcut

The Gen 2 mini-game has a simple probabilistic edge:

  • Number is 1–4: always guess Higher (B)
  • Number is 6–9: always guess Lower (A)
  • Number is 5: true 50/50 — pick either

More possible numbers exist on the winning side when the current number is low or high, giving you a statistical edge on every non-5 roll.

Common Beginner Mistakes

Not turning the lights off at sleep time. Sleep triggers an attention call — ignoring it 15 minutes = care mistake.

Not noticing sickness. The skull icon doesn’t generate an attention call. Check the screen proactively.

Not cleaning poop. Four poops on screen simultaneously cause sickness. No attention call — check manually.

Neglecting Zuccitchi thinking the secret character appears automatically. It doesn’t on Gen 2 — unlike Gen 1, continued good care on Zuccitchi is required to trigger the transformation into Zatchi.

Getting 2+ care mistakes as Tonmarutchi. Forces the bad teen (Hashitamatchi), permanently blocking Mimitchi and Pochitchi. The child stage is the most critical window.

Overusing snacks. Each snack adds 2 weight and raises sickness risk. Use the mini-game for happiness instead.

Essential Tricks & Secrets

The Pause Trick

Press B to enter clock view, then hold A+C simultaneously. “SET” appears and the device freezes completely — no aging, hunger, poop, or evolution. Set the clock back to real time to resume. Essential for school, work, or sleep.

Sound Toggle

Press A+C from the main screen to mute or unmute.

Battery Warning

Gen 2 uses volatile SRAM — no flash storage. Removing the battery causes instant, total data loss. There is no safe swap window. Replace batteries as fast as physically possible or accept a reset.
