These are the two modern Tamagotchi devices worth owning, and they are built on opposite philosophies. The Uni is a connected device: Wi-Fi, an online world, downloadable content that keeps arriving. Paradise has no internet connectivity at all and spends that budget on the deepest raising system in the franchise’s history.

The Raising System Is the Real Difference
On the Uni, two things decide your character. Happiness sets which of three teens you get; care mistakes decide which of that teen’s three adults you land on. That is it. It is clean, quick to learn, and you can hold the whole chart in your head.
On Paradise, three things decide it, and they are sequential. The field you are in sets your Kid. The food you feed most during the Kid stage sets your Young species. Your cumulative care mistakes — counted across both stages — set which of four adults that Young becomes. Get any one wrong and you land somewhere completely different.
Paradise is a game you plan. The Uni is a pet you keep.
Where the Uni Wins — Content That Keeps Coming
The Uni is still receiving content three years after launch. Bandai ships a free downloadable item set every month, runs Tamaverse events, and has released thirteen downloadable lands carrying 83 characters between them — the newest, Baby’s Dream, arrived in September 2026.
Paradise ships complete. What is on the device is what you get, forever. If “there is something new to do this month” matters to you, that is the Uni, and it is not close.
Where Paradise Wins — It Will Outlive the Uni
Paradise has no internet connection, and that is a feature. Nothing about it can be switched off remotely. In ten years it will play exactly as it does today.
The Uni’s best features run through Bandai’s servers. Basic care, evolution and device-to-device Connect all work offline, and lands you have already downloaded stay on your device — but the Tamaverse, download codes and new lands all need those servers running. Character Count — It Depends How You Count
Paradise has more characters on the device: 68 across four fields, plus 30+ more on the 2026 shells.
The Uni has more characters available: about 20 in the base roster, plus 83 across thirteen downloadable lands. But each land is a separate purchase at 900¥ or $7.20, only one can be loaded at a time, and switching deletes that land’s items.
So: Paradise if you want everything included. Uni if you do not mind buying it piece by piece and want the collection to keep growing.
What About the Tamagotchi Pix?
The Pix sits below both. It has a camera and colour screen and is genuinely fun, but its raising system is shallower than either and it receives no new content. Buy one because you want the camera, not because you are choosing between these three.

Can You Connect Them to Each Other?
No. Paradise connects to other Paradise devices, and the Uni to other Unis. Paradise’s secret characters need connections to two different Paradise shell colours — a Uni will not work.

Buy Paradise if you want the better game, you like planning a specific outcome, or you want something that works forever without a server behind it.
Buy the Uni if you want an online world, you would rather collect than optimise, or you want a device that still has something new in it next month.
Many people own both, and they genuinely complement each other — a strategic device and a social one.
