Default pellets are the cheapest food in Paradise and the most misunderstood. They are the only food that never pushes your evolution in any direction — which makes them the most useful item in the game once you know what you are doing.
What Pellets Actually Do
Pellets are always available in the shop at the lowest price. They fill the hunger meter like anything else, but they add no food cell of any type.
The Catch
Feeding only pellets, or an even mix of every type, gives you the field’s default Young — Float in Water and Ice, Sprout in Land, Forest and Tropical, Rocky in Sky. Default Youngs cannot reach any secret character. So pellets are the safe filler, not the safe strategy.
What It Does to Your Evolution
Because pellets add no food-type cell, they are evolution-neutral. That gives them two completely different uses depending on what you want.
| If you want… | Do this |
|---|---|
| A specific Young species | Feed a few of the target food to get the icon, then switch to pellets for the rest of the Kid stage. Your target stays dominant and you save Gotchi Points. |
| The default Young (Float, Sprout or Rocky) | Feed only pellets through the whole Kid stage. This is the deliberate route to those three. |
| To keep hunger topped up without deciding yet | Pellets. Any other food is a vote. |
When It Matters
Food only steers evolution during the Kid stage. What you feed as a Baby, a Young or an Adult has no effect on which character you get — it only fills the hunger meter. The Kid stage runs 24–28 hours, and that is your whole window.
You need one icon of the target type in your Tama Cell, and more of it than any other type at the moment of evolution. Feed a few, watch for the icon, then switch to cheap default pellets to save Gotchi Points.
This is the single most useful habit in Paradise. Most players feed whatever is cheapest or nearest, then wonder why they got Sprout. Two or three of your target food followed by pellets for the rest of the stage is cheaper and more reliable than feeding the target food throughout.
