What Is It?
Released for the franchise’s 25th anniversary on November 23, 2021, the Tamagotchi Smart was the first wearable Tamagotchi — a smartwatch you strap to your wrist. It introduced a touchscreen with four touch zones (A, B, C, D) plus swipes, a built-in step counter, and a sound sensor that lets you “talk” to your pet to wake it. It is Japan-exclusive.
Key Features
- Wearable smartwatch form factor.
- Touchscreen with four touch zones and swipe controls.
- Step counter and a built-in clock.
- Sound interaction to wake your pet (not true speech recognition).
- TamaSma Cards — themed memory cards that add downloadable content.
- Rechargeable battery, no coin cells.
Is It Worth Getting Today?
A novel collector’s piece — and an important one. The Smart’s wrist-worn design, touchscreen, and rechargeable battery directly shaped the worldwide Tamagotchi Uni that followed. It is Japan-only, so importing is required, but the TamaSma card system keeps it fresh.
