Blue Water starts you in the Water Field, home to sixteen aquatic adults across four Young species. Your adult comes down to three things — the field, the food you feed during the Kid stage, and how many care mistakes you make. Blue Water handles the first automatically. This page covers the other two.
Still deciding which shell to buy? The Blue Water Shell Guide covers price and comparisons. For every shell in one place, see the master Evolution Chart.
The Short Version
Three decisions, in this order:
- Field — Blue Water starts in the Water Field. Nothing to do here.
- Food — what you feed most during the Kid stage sets your Young species.
- Care mistakes — your cumulative total across the Kid and Young stages sets which of four adults that Young becomes.
Miss any one and you land somewhere else entirely. Paradise shows your care mistake count in the Tama Cell view, so you are never guessing.
Blue Water Growth Chart (Water Field)
| Young species (diet) | Perfect care (0 + 5× maxed) | Near-perfect (0–1) | Moderate (2–5) | Heavy neglect (6+) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Glide Young — Seafood | Irukatchi | Kametchi | Kujiratchi | Uruotchi |
| Leap Young — Seaweed | Axolopatchi | Imoritchi | Kawazutchi | Beavertchi |
| Paddle Young — Plankton | Tachutchi | Sharktchi | Ankotchi | Otototchi |
| Float Young — mixed / default pellets | Kuraratchi | Mendakotchi | Amefuratchi | Gusokutchi |
Secret character — Mermarintchi. Connect your Blue Water to two different shell colours while your Tamagotchi is in the Young stage. A Float Young does not qualify — you must be on the Glide, Leap or Paddle line. Cross-wave connections count, and the Tama Lab counts as one of the two.
Water characters have a 35% sickness rate after a qualifying care mistake. Otototchi is worth chasing for its own sake — it debuted as a teen on Tamagotchi Ocean in the 1990s and Paradise is its first adult form in over 25 years.
Water Field Food Chart — What Triggers Each Young
You only need one icon of the target food type in your Tama Cell, with more of that type than any other. Feed a few of what you want, get the icon, then switch to cheap default pellets to save Gotchi Points.
| Food type | Foods that give it | → Young species |
|---|---|---|
| Seafood | Seafood, Fried Fish, Shellfish, Grilled Shellfish | Glide Young |
| Seaweed | Green Seaweed, Red Seaweed, Seaweed Salad | Leap Young |
| Plankton | Meal Shrimp, Meal Plankton, Plankton Dumplings | Paddle Young |
| None / mixed | Default pellets, or equal amounts of each | Float Young |
If no single food type dominates at the moment of evolution you get the default Young, which cannot reach the secret character. That is the one to aim for deliberately — and the one to avoid by accident.
Which Fields You Get on Blue Water
| Order | Field | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Water Field | Where Blue Water begins |
| Level 6 | Land Field | Unlocks with planet level |
| Level 6 | Sky Field | Unlocks with planet level |
Blue Water gets all three 2025 fields, so every 2025 character is raisable here — only the secret character is shell-locked. The Forest, Tropical and Ice fields are not available.
Care Mistakes and Perfect Care
A care mistake is logged when a meter hits zero, the attention beep sounds, and you leave it for 15 full minutes. Mistakes are cumulative from the Kid stage onward — two as a Kid plus one as a Young is three total, and three is what the game checks at the adult transition.
For a perfect-care adult you need both: zero care mistakes, and Hunger maxed at least 5 times and Happy maxed at least 5 times during the Young stage. Zero mistakes alone will not do it — this trips up more players than any other rule in the game.
The Vitamin cell: eating Cheerful Popcorn guarantees a Vitamin cell, and Random Jelly or Random Boba can grant one. A Vitamin prevents a single sickness, then disappears.
No take-backs on this shell. Once a care mistake is made it stays for that Tamagotchi’s whole life. Only the 2026 shells — White Glacier and Orange Tropics — can erase one, using the Golden Peach from a perfect Egg Hunt.
Common Ways People Get the Wrong Adult
- Fed a mix during the Kid stage. Any ambiguity defaults you to Float Young. Commit to one food type.
- Counted mistakes from the Young stage only. They are cumulative from Kid.
- Hit zero mistakes but skipped the meter requirement. Perfect care needs 5× maxed on both Hunger and Happy during Young.
- Tried for Mermarintchi on a Float Young. It does not qualify.
- Connected to the same colour twice. Mermarintchi needs two different colours.
